COVID-19 Information:

Food & Supplies:

  • Mountaineer Food Bank, located in Gassaway, WV, provides food and other household items to our emergency food network in 48 counties, including programs such as food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, Backpack programs, senior programs and mobile pantries. Contact Rodney Cook at rodney@mountaineerfoodbank.com or (304) 364-5518. He will provide the application to become a client.  A truck meets you once a month at Colabel’s parking lot to pick up your food.  You should check their website a couple times a week because the food changes daily.
  • Foodpantries.org has a local food pantry locator.
  • The USDA has a free food program called the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP). We’re told this process can be slow and tedious, but may be worth a shot.
  • Check with restaurant food suppliers who now have a surplus of leftover food or wholesale companies for goods like paper towels, toilet paper, cleaner, etc.

Funding Support:

  • Emergency Small Business Administration (SBA) loans are available for businesses and private non-profit organizations that are non-governmental agencies or entities that currently have an effective ruling letter from the IRS granting tax exemption under sections 501(c),(d), or (e) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954, or satisfactory evidence from the State that the non-revenue producing organization or entity is a non-profit one organized or doing business under State law, or a faith-based organization.   • United Way can offer residents financial support for rent for your residents. This is usually one-time help, but they may adjust according to need. United Way of the River Cities has created a COVID-19 support fund for Cabell, Lincoln, Mason and Wayne Counties.
  • Catholic Charities is another resource for financial support for rent for your residents.
  • Encourage folks who were previously employed to apply for unemployment with WV Workforce. Keep in mind, they are pretty backed up, but the sooner your residents get their applications in, the sooner they’ll get paid.
  • The National Council of Nonprofits lists details of emergency funding relief for nonprofits via the CARES Act on their website.
  • The WV Council on Philanthropy created a funding resource page.

WV Medicaid:

  • The DHHR and WV Medicaid released this announcement extending telehealth access to in-home telephone or video conferencing.

Recovery Support:

  • The West Virginia Drug Intervention Institute (WV DII), Inc. located at the University of Charleston has launched a listing of online, virtual, and telephonic COVID-19 resources for persons in active addiction and recovery. The resources are available at www.wvdii.org Persons and organizations who wish to add to the list, are invited to contact the WV DII at susanbissett@dii.ucwv.edu.
  • Online Alcoholics Anonymous Meetings
  • Online Narcotics Anonymous Meetings
  • Al-Anon online and phone meetings
  • In the Rooms offers over 130 weekly on-line meetings for people experiencing substance use and related mental health disorders.
  • SMART Recovery meetings are available online. Self-Management And Recovery Training (SMART) is a global community of mutual-support groups. At meetings, participants help one another resolve problems with any addiction (to drugs or alcohol or to activities such as gambling or over-eating). Participants find and develop the power within themselves to change and lead fulfilling and balanced lives guided by our science-based and sensible 4-Point Program
  • Recovery Dharma is a peer-led, grass-roots, democratically-structured organization whose mission is to support individuals on their path of recovery from addiction using Buddhist practices and principles. Their website offers online meetings and other recovery support resources.
  • Eating Recovery Center offers virtual support groups for people with eating disorders.
  • The Phoenix sober active community is offering free virtual meditation, yoga, and Cross-Fit classes for people in recovery.
  • Recovery Link provides free online peer support, recovery meetings, Cross-Fit, and yoga classes.
